Self Tanning Myths Debunked

Self Tanning Myths Debunked

Regardless of what season we’re heading into, getting that all year round summer glow you crave is usually done most easily and commonly by a self-tanner. Although, when it comes to self-tanning there are many preconceived notions that come with the name and are not necessarily true.
Today, we’re here to talk, and bust, 5 myths about self-tan, so you can achieve that summer glow, all year round!

Myth #1: Self tanning formulas are the same

It is a common misconception that all self-tan is the same, but in actual fact, self tanners can be found in different forms, including gels, foams, mists, lotions, mousses and more.
Luna Bronze tans come in a variety of forms including a mousse, moisturiser, mist and lotion! If you’d like to know which formula is best for you, email our PR team who can get back to you with all your questions and concerns and recommend one that is best suited to you: hello@lunabronze.com.au

Myth #2: You can apply any type of moisturiser to keep your tan looking fresh.

It is true that moisturising your skin is one of the ways to keep your tan looking fresh. However, it is important to note that some moisturisers can actually get rid of your tan, instead of helping it last.
At Luna Bronze, we understand tan and skincare, which is why we’ve blended them together. Our unique bronzing formulation is created with up to 99% certified organic, natural and naturally derived ingredients such as coconut, rose hip & jojoba, enriched with Vitamins A, B & E, to provide you with a deep hydration while building a sunless glow.

Myth #3: Fake tan will make you orange

Back in the 2000’s, all we ever worried about was being called an oompa loompa. These days, the quality of tan has come a long way. Ranging in different shades and formulas, they also can be applied in various ways to ensure you find the perfect one for your skin, and won’t leave you looking orange.
The general rule for choosing the correct shade is going two to three shades darker than your natural skin tone. However, if you’re a first-time self-tanner, it is best to start using a light or medium gradual tan, rather than a dark straight away, like the Luna Bronze Glow Gradual Tanning Moisturiser which is perfect in building a natural tan or the Luna Bronze Eclipse Tanning Mousse in a medium.
If you’re worried about self-tanning your face, the Luna Bronze Illume Face Tanning Mist, is designed for everyday use on your face and neck to provide a subtle, bronzed effect, building over 1-3 applications. The gentle and certified organic ingredients and non-comedogenic formula is suitable for all skin types and won't clog your pores. And, it will leave you smelling like a fresh blend of mandarin, lemon myrtle, and orange blossom.

Myth #4: Streaks are inevitable

Besides looking orange, an added scare factor to self-tanning are the streaks. However, good news is, they are easily avoided if the tan is applied correctly. Applying your tan to moisture free skin is the best way to start as the moisture can block the tan from activating evenly across the skin’s surface. This is why our formulas will ensure your skin stays hydrated.
Creating a smooth base is also key. Always exfoliate before self tanning as this will remove dead cells, and ensure you shave no less than 24 hours before application, to give all pores the chance to close over, which will avoid guide colour seeping in.
Finally, the Luna Bronze olive based formula (no orange hues) contains colour guide technology, that enables you to see where the product has been applied to keep your tan streak free. The hydrating oils and Aloe Vera in the formula, also ensures your tan doesn’t crack or fade. In addition, using a tanning mitt, can also help a flawless result, whilst also keeping your hands protected and avoid colouring your palms.

Myth #5: Tan Completely Washes Off in the Shower

If you use a mousse, within 6-8 hours, you will need to rinse lightly in shower and gently pat dry. If you’re a first time tanner, you may see your shower floor turn brown, but this is not your tan washing off, it is the colour guide. This colour guide makes your tan appear darker than it is and when washed off leaves the perfect golden glow underneath which will continue to develop over 24 hours.
